Enrolling in the Blue Springs School District

Welcome to the Blue Springs School District.  If you are new to our district, you may contact your school to begin the enrollment process.  If you are unsure as to which school to set up your appointment with you can use the following link to determine which school your child will attend.

Required Enrollment Documents

The following documents are required to enroll a student in the Blue Springs School District:
  1. Immunization Record
  2. Copy of Birth Certificte issued by the state
  3. Social Security Number
  4. Proof of Residency within the district boundaries (see below)

Enrolling in the Blue Springs School District
Enrolling begins at the school the student will attend.  Please contact your school to make an appointment to begin the enrollment process. If you are unsure what school your child will attend, you may use the link above or contact our transportation office at 816.224.1385.
 
As part of the enrollment process the school will ask for a number of documents.  Please have these available at your appointment time to assure that the process is completed.  The list of documents needed are listed to the left. 
Each year schools will verify current residency for all students in the Blue Springs School District.  Parents will be required to provide proof of residency in the form of a utility bill. 

Proof of Residency
Verification of residency will be conducted annually with all students enrolled in the Blue Springs School District.  The following guidelines will be adhered to regarding documentation of current residency.  Parents wishing to enroll a student in the district must also provide proof of residency in on of the following ways:

Statement/bill (not more than 30 days old) for service from a utility company that shows the utility service location, the resident’s name, street address, and city. One of the following is required: (1) Water statement of account, (2) water bill, (3) electric bill, (4) gas bill. On-line payment information will NOT be accepted. SHUT OFF and DISCONNECT NOTICES ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE. On-line statements are not acceptable.

If Person(s) enrolling student is Leasing Property and the lease shows that all utilities are paid as a portion of the rent, this will be accepted in place of a utility bill. The following is required: (1) A signed (by all parties) and dated lease agreement that shows the address and phone numbers of the Lessee AND Lessor.

If the student and custodial parent/guardian are living with a BSSD Resident (they can not provide a utility bill in their name):A notarized Application for Request for Waiver of Domicile Requirements(form is available at each school) must be submitted along with a utility bill, lease or rental contract proving the residency of the third party. This is done at building level. 

If the family is planning to move into the District within 110 Calendar Days:
A contract to build, or purchase a home in the District reflecting a possession or closing date within 110 calendar days of their first day of school must be provided along with an Application for Request for Waiver of Domicile Requirements. This will be done at building level. 


 

Parental Rights
The custody of a child is presumed to be held by the child’s parents unless a court order states otherwise. In divorce situations, a copy of the divorce decree or other legal documentation that shows designation of primary care and custody of child must be provided to the school. If joint custody, but student is not living with primary custodial parent, then the primary custodial parent needs to fill out an Affidavit of Acknowledgement.  This can be done at building level.

Guardianship
Any student wishing to enroll who is domiciled with a guardian residing in the school district will need to contact the Department of Public Safety at (816) 224-1383 for an appointment.  Legal documentation showing court appointed guardianship will need to be provided before student will be permitted to enroll. Exceptions will be made in adherence to federal/state regulations. Residency verifications will be conducted annually with all students enrolled in the Blue Springs School District.
